Letters and writings, 1909-1948.

Collection includes: an illustrated letter to Dr. Rosa Schapira, 1917 Dec. 22, informs her of prints to be send by Cornelius Gurlitt. A postcard to Lutz Weltmann, 1929 April 5, concerns signing a woodblock print. A series of eleven letters to Dr. Fritz Schneider, 1934-1946, mostly about their common hobby fishing, with some remarks about political events of the time, art and personal matters. One letter, 1947 Dec. 8, from Hugo Pechstein to a Miss Dieterle requests payment for pictures bought from his brother in Berlin, and a letter from Max Pechstein to Miss Dieterle, 1948 Oct. 30, asks her for help in collecting outstanding payments for a painting bought by an American collector. Pechstein goes on to report that all his money and property has been confiscated by the Russians, while the Americans have confiscated all of his remaining works in America and auctioned them off. With a 2 p. typescript essay, "Symbolismus und Realitàˆt"(n.d.) about the sources of Pechstein's work, and three poems about war (n.d.).
